States take action against tainted catfish from China

Agriculture Commissioners in three Southern states have taken steps to protect consumers from imported Chinese catfish that contained banned substances.

Alabama Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks  banned Chinese catfish from the state after inspectors found samples contained fluoroquinolones, antibiotics that are banned in human food in the United States.

In addition, Mississippi Agriculture Commissioner Lester Spell and Louisiana Commissioner Bob Odom have placed stop sale orders on Chinese catfish after the fish was found to contain the antibiotic. The three commissioners noted that the federal Food and Drug Administration has a zero tolerance on fluoroquinolons.
